Micro and nano liposome vesicles containing curcumin for a drug delivery system

http://repository.vnu.edu.vn/handle/VNU_123/26692

Micro and nano liposome vesicles were prepared using a lipidfilm hydration method and a sonication method. Phospholipid, cholesterol and curcumin were used to form micro and nano liposomes containing curcumin.
The size, structure and properties of the liposomes were characterized by using optical microscopy, transmission electron microscopy, and UV–vis and Raman spectroscopy.
It was found that the size of the liposomes was dependent on their composition and the preparation method. The hydration method created micro multilamellars, whereas nano unilamellars were formed using the sonication method.
By adding cholesterol, the vesicles of the liposome could be stabilized and stored at 4°C for up to 9 months. The liposome vesicles containing curcumin with good biocompatibility and biodegradability could be used for drug delivery applications.
